OAKS PARK
CLIENT: Oaks Park
LOCATION: Portland, Oregan
SCOPE: Wayfinding strategy, sign messaging and location planning, signage design
Operating since 1905, Oaks Park is one of the oldest continuously running amusement parks in the U.S. The 44-acre park offers a seasonal selection of rides, midway games, picnic areas, and a year round roller-skating rink. We designed a comprehensive signage and wayfinding strategy as part of a broader park renovation with landscape architects Walker Macy. The goal of the project was to reinforce a sense of identity and unity through the park while also providing functional wayfinding.
Given the park’s rich history, we sought to highlight its eclectic, old-timey character. By selecting a few unifying elements including a narrow, cohesive colour palette and a consistent typographic family, we were then afforded the freedom to experiment boldly, adapting each design to its unique context and application.
