DARTS HILL GARDEN

CLIENT: City of Surrey
LOCATION:
South Surrey, BC
SCOPE:
Interpretive and Wayfinding Signage

Shaping how visitors move through and understand Darts Hill Garden, the work brings together wayfinding and storytelling into a single, cohesive experience.

The design reflects both the physical character of the garden and the legacy of its founder, Francesca Darts. We began with the experience of the garden itself—layered, seasonal, and shaped by a deep personal vision. Interpretive content was integrated with wayfinding to create a system where stories unfold naturally along visitor paths. A distinctive visual language was developed, anchored in the rich purple associated with Darts Hill, establishing a clear and memorable identity across the site.

Clarity, flexibility, and accessibility guided the design of the signage system. Structures were aligned with existing City of Surrey fabrication standards, enabling efficient production, straightforward maintenance, and long-term adaptability. The result is a durable and legible system that supports both everyday use and the garden’s ongoing evolution.
