DEER LAKE PRECINCT
CLIENT: City of Burnaby
LOCATION: Burnaby, BC
SCOPE: Comprehensive sign plan, wayfinding strategy, stakeholder engagement, signage design, by-law amendment
This multifaceted site of over 80 acres is in the centre of the city and includes Burnaby City Hall, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby Village Museum, a lake with surrounding gorgeous boardwalk, small beach, and grassy meadows which are home to multiple species of flora and fauna.
The Deer Lake Wayfinding project successfully revitalized directional signage across the Burnaby City Hall and Deer Lake Park Precinct, transforming the visitor experience and enhancing accessibility to this treasured natural environment that serves as the cultural centre of Burnaby. Through a comprehensive analysis of the existing signage on roads, transit stops, cycle paths, and pedestrian routes, the Lost & Found team developed and implemented a Comprehensive Signage Design Plan.
The new signage seamlessly coordinates with existing facilities, public parking (on-site and off-site), and transit routes, ensuring clear navigation for visitors arriving by public transit, private vehicles, cycling, or walking. By introducing contemporary and effective design elements, the updated signage has improved traffic flow, streamlined navigation, and enriched the overall visitor experience. This project demonstrates how targeted wayfinding and signage interventions can drive significant transformation of municipal spaces.
